Facts Check News: The message widely viral in social media claiming Free Laptop Distribution by Prime Minister is not true, even the IIM graduate who made this viral is arrested.

The message is widely shared on facebook, twitter, and WhatsApp. If you click this you go to a page also known as Information mining. The website tries to get your personal information like Name, Mobile Number, Age, and much other information.


Madhur Verma, IPS Officer | DCP New Delhi district | #DelhiPolice put this information on Twitter stating ” FAKE NEWS ALERT Cybercrime unit of @DelhiPolice has already arrested the accused behind this fake message being circulated on WhatsApp. There is no such free laptop scheme. Pls do not believe and pay any amount to them. #SpreadTheWord     

The Cyber Crime Unit of Delhi Police had received information that someone had created and hosted a website by the domain name www.modi-laptop.wishguruji.com, promising distribution of millions of free laptops on the occasion of the formation of Modi’s new government;

Rakesh Jangid (23), IIT postgraduate of 2019 batch, was arrested from his hometown Pundlota in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, they said. 

A criminal case under the IT Act was registered and an investigation was taken up using technical assistance from labs of CyPAD.
